Gymnastics Federation of American Samoa

The Gymnastics Federation of American Samoa (GFAS) is the official governing body for Gymnastics in American Samoa.

The story of gymnastics in American Samoa began in 2015 when then Sports Commissioner Ethan Lake recognised the valuable contribution that gymnastics could make to the development of physical abilities for all sports and invited Gymnastics Australia to visit and conduct development activities.  Since then Gymnastics Australia representatives have visited Pago Pago four times, conducting coach training and gymnast clinics.  Ethan Lake is now Secretary of American Samoa National Olympic Committee and still a strong supporter of the Gymnastics Federation of American Samoa which was officially recognised and ratified as a full member of the International Gymnastics Federation in October 2016.

Kindergym and Gymnastics for All programs are offered in American Samoa and sports such as American Football and Wrestling have benefited from gymnastics coaching for cross training.  Cheerleading is also popular in American Samoa and falls under the umbrella of the Gymnastics Federation of American Samoa.  More recently Freestyle Gymnastics has been introduced with a vision for a pathway to the International Gymnastics Federation’s newest discipline – Parkour.
